Award-winning Interdisciplinary Artist Anikó Sáfrán leads a workshop in storytelling through documentary photography and filmmaking.

Anikó Sáfrán creates conceptual art motivated by her engagement with the social and natural worlds. An interdisciplinary artist rooted in photography, her primary medium, she uses video, sound, performance, and graphic media to create 2-D and time-based work and site-specific installations that portray the day-to-day rituals of life: what we love, what we waste, how we get by, how we fail. Born to immigrants, Sáfrán’s bi-cultural identity also influences her work.

Sáfrán received an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from James Madison University. She holds a BFA in Photography and a BA in Film and New Media Arts from the University of Utah. Sáfrán’s award-winning work has been exhibited in the United States and abroad, including The Contemporary Museum of Honolulu, the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, the Richmond International Airport, and the Bartok Gallery in Budapest, Hungary. Sáfrán is a VMFA Visual Arts Fellow (2020-21) and a Siciliano Utah Fine Arts Institute Scholar (2007).

Before turning to a career in fine art, Sáfrán was a film industry professional working on feature films, television shows, and commercials.
