Hugh Jackman’s 1998 breakout performance as Curly
will be screened around the world for two days only!
Trafalgar Releasing, in partnership with Concord Originals and the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, have announced the international cinema release of the National Theatre’s Olivier Award-winning production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! The 1998 revival starred then-newcomer Hugh Jackman as Curly and was filmed following its acclaimed London run.
The film will be screened in more than 800 cinemas around the globe for two days only — Sunday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 19. Screenings will be held in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Norway, and Australia.
The production is directed by three-time Tony Award winner Trevor Nunn and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. In addition to Jackman, the cast features Maureen Lipman as Aunt Eller, Josefina Gabrielle as Laurie, Tony and Olivier Award winner Shuler Hensley as Jud Fry, Vicki Simon as Ado Annie, Jimmy Johnston as Will Parker, and Peter Polycarpou as Ali Hakim.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Anthony Ward, lighting designer David Hersey, music director John Owen Edwards, and orchestrator Robert Russell Bennett, with additional orchestrations by William David Brohn and dance music arranged by David Krane.
The cinematic release coincides with the 80th anniversary of Oklahoma!, the first musical written by Rodgers & Hammerstein. Set in farm country outside the town of Claremore, Indian Territory, in 1906, it tells the story of farm girl Laurey Williams and her courtship by two rival suitors. The story is based on Lynn Riggs’s 1931 play Green Grow the Lilacs.
